El Gran Diluvio
Vamos a ver como el relato bíblico de Noé y su odisea no es único, y tal vez, ni siquiera sea el original, ya que hay evidencias que llevan a pensar que fue tomado de otras culturas y adaptado.
A mediados del siglo XIX, se iniciaron las excavaciones en Nínive; de allí más de 25.000 tablillas de arcilla fueron llevadas al Museo de Londres; pero en el camino se rompieron y mezclaron, por lo que descifrarlas parecía una tarea imposible, teniendo en cuenta que el lenguaje asirio-babilónico en el que estaban escritas fue descifrado tiempo después.
La solución la encontró George Smith -un diseñador de billetes- quien tras ardua labor, asombró al mundo con su obra “El relato caldeo del diluvio”, publicado en 1872.
Se había logrado extraer de Nínive la enorme biblioteca del rey de Babilonia Assurbanipal, que vivió en el siglo VII a.C. y que hizo que sus escribas dejasen para la posteridad las mejores obras de la cultura mesopotámica.

Entre lo hallado estaba la Tablilla XI de 326 líneas, de las cuales más de 200 hablan del diluvio.

El momento había llegado; al amanecer surgió de los cielos “una nube negra sobre la que cabalgaban los dioses” (sic); de pronto se desató una enorme tempestad que barrió el país.

Siguieron apareciendo tablillas, no solo en Nínive, sino también en Assur, Uruk, Nippur, Sippar y Ur. Todas coinciden en el contenido del relato de Uta-napishtim, aunque los personajes se llaman Atrahasis o Ziusudra.
De todos los relatos, hay un texto (desgraciadamente muy mutilado) encontrado en Hilprecht, correspondiente a la versión babilónica y se remonta al segundo milenio anterior a nuestra era.Es el más antiguo de los que se tiene conocimiento, aunque todavía queda por encontrar el original sumerio que dio origen a esta copia guardada en la biblioteca del rey Assurbanipal.
Se deduce que en la cuenca existente entre los ríos Tigris y Eúfrates, se produjo (unos 3.000 años antes de Cristo), un gran cataclismo en forma de diluvio que quedó ampliamente documentado y que con el tiempo fue transferido a otras culturas, por los colonizadores que se afincaron en otras partes de la tierra.
Así habría llegado a Moisés (en el 1.500 a.C.), quien lo recogió de tradiciones orales de antiguos judíos. De esta misma forma habría llegado a Beroso (sacerdote babilonio de Marduk) que lo escribió en el 275 a.C. , posteriormente el relato fue difundido por el historiador griego Alejandro Polistor en el siglo I a.C. y más tarde por los relatores romanos.

El pastor que las cuidaba, intrigado por esta actitud, las interrogó y fue así que le contaron que dos estrellas se acercarían hasta tocarse y en ese momento, el mundo quedaría sumergido bajo las aguas.
