El rendimiento del estudiante tiene que primar sobre los demás criterios de concesión de becas universitarias. Los planes del ministro de Educacion cultura y deporte, José Ignacio Wert, suponen un cambio de modelo del sistema de acceso y mantenimiento de las ayudas a los estudios superiores ya que actualmente dependen del nivel de renta familiar.

Lo ha anunciado en un desayuno informativo organizado por el Foro Nueva Sociedad el titular de Educación, quien ha recordado que «las becas se han convertido en una asignación no competitiva, es decir, que a partir de un determinado nivel económico se tiene el derecho a una». «Es el nivel socioeconómico el que determina la beca y prácticamente no hay condicionamiento en el otorgamiento y la continuidad de la misma respecto al rendimiento», ha agregado.

En este contexto, en su opinión, «no solo hay que revisar el mecanismo de acceso a la beca, sino también el mecanismo de mantenimiento de la misma en dos sentidos: tiene que ser más exigente en cuanto al rendimiento y más sensible a la exigencia», ha apuntado antes de añadir que para seguir manteniendo una beca, actualmente al alumno «le da exactamente igual obtener un sobresaliente que un cinco».

Aunque el ministro ha señalado que no quiere valorar esta cuestión antes de tiempo, ha adelantado que es un tema que se está estudiando y que requiere una «reflexión profunda». En cualquier caso, ha asegurado que el departamento que dirige no planea reducir «en absoluto» los recursos destinados a las becas.

El titular de Educación ha abogado también por la colaboración de las empresas en este «camino de las reformas». Se refería a la aprobación de la ley de mecenazgo, que planteará un marco en el que las compañías se interesen por la universidad también desde un punto de vista «empresarial». Hay que dar «un paso más» en esta dirección, ha insistido.
